Night lane closures on SR 56 at Bruce B. Downs and on SR 52 at I-75 through Oct. 23. Plus the Exit 279 ramp job, FDOT projects, FL511 and who to call.
Last checked Oct. 16, 2026. This page is refreshed weekly. Project facts come from the Florida Department of Transportation’s District 7 site, FDOT Tampa Bay, which lists five projects in Wesley Chapel.
Most of Wesley Chapel’s big roads, I-75, State Road 56 and State Road 54, and the county roads FDOT is resurfacing, are state projects run by FDOT District 7. County roads are maintained by Pasco County Public Works. For live traffic, crashes and closures on interstates and state roads, use FL511 or dial 511.

Closures this week
From FDOT District 7’s project pages:
- SR 56, both directions, from west of Bruce B. Downs Boulevard (CR 581) to east of Shops Lane: night lane closures Sunday through Thursday, 8:30 p.m. to 7:30 a.m., weather permitting, paused Friday and Saturday nights. FL511 lists the closures through the morning of Friday, Oct. 23. No detour is posted; one lane stays open.
- SR 52 near I-75 (Exit 285), north of Wesley Chapel, from west of I-75 to Tradeway Boulevard and Pasco Road: periodic night lane closures Sunday through Friday, 8 p.m. to 6 a.m., for FDOT’s I-75 at SR 52 interchange improvements. FL511 lists them through Friday, Oct. 23.
- Suncoast Trail trailhead on SR 54 at Touchpoint Drive: access is closed around the clock while FDOT builds the trail’s pedestrian bridge over SR 54, a closure that began June 23 and is expected to last until summer 2027.
Finished: the night ramp lane closures on the I-75 southbound Exit 279 ramp to CR 54 (Wesley Chapel Boulevard) that FDOT listed for Oct. 11-15 have ended. The ramp project continues; FDOT had not posted the next closures when this page was checked. Watch the project page for new dates.
FDOT’s district lane closure list still covers the week that ended Saturday, Oct. 17, so the SR 56 and SR 52 dates above come from FL511. Check it again before a late-night trip.
Cypress Creek. The National Weather Service gauge on Cypress Creek at SR 54 (Worthington Gardens), west of Wesley Chapel, read 7.43 feet Thursday evening. That is action stage, below the 8-foot minor flood stage, and the forecast shows the creek falling. At 8 feet, flooding begins at the recreation area on SR 54. Check the NOAA gauge for the latest reading.
For every closure in the county, see FDOT’s Pasco County lane closures list or the District 7 real-time map.
Projects under construction
| Project | What it does | Cost | Due |
|---|---|---|---|
| SR 56 and Bruce B. Downs Boulevard resurfacing | Repaves SR 56 from west of Bruce B. Downs to Meadow Pointe Boulevard (3.8 miles) and Bruce B. Downs from SR 56 to south of CR 54 (3.5 miles) | $19.8 million | Fall 2027 |
| I-75 interchange improvement at CR 54 | Widens the southbound Exit 279 ramp for dual left turns to eastbound CR 54 | $1.7 million | Spring 2027 |
SR 56 and Bruce B. Downs. Two resurfacing jobs combined under one contract with Preferred Materials Inc. Work began Aug. 24, 2026. Besides new pavement, FDOT is adding safety improvements at the SR 56 and Bruce B. Downs intersection, upgrading signals, lighting and curb ramps, and reworking Meadow Pointe Boulevard near SR 56 into two 12-foot lanes to handle the left turns there.
I-75 at CR 54 (Exit 279). The southbound off-ramp gets wider lanes and shoulders so two lanes can turn left toward eastbound CR 54, along with new signals, drainage and intersection lighting. Blacktip Services Inc. began work Oct. 5, 2026.
I-75 FRAME. FDOT is installing roadside equipment for future connected-vehicle systems along I-75, SR 54, SR 56 and other roads in Hillsborough, Pasco and Hernando counties. The $4.4 million job began Jan. 5, 2026, and is due in fall 2027, according to FDOT.
Coming next
| Project | Status |
|---|---|
| CR 54 resurfacing, Bruce B. Downs Boulevard to east of Curley Road (2.8 miles) | In design; construction expected to begin fall 2027 |
| I-275/I-75 resurfacing, Hillsborough County line to CR 54 (9 miles) | In design; construction expected to begin spring 2027 |
| I-75/I-275 southbound collector-distributor road, SR 56 to south of County Line Road (3.9 miles) | In design; construction not funded |
CR 54. Milling and resurfacing, safety changes, curb ramps, signal changes and a lighting study along CR 54 in Wesley Chapel. FDOT held a public meeting on the design July 15 at the Wesley Chapel Library, 27531 Mystic Oak Blvd.
The collector-distributor road. A three-lane southbound road would run from the SR 56 on-ramp to the point where I-75 and I-275 split, matching the northbound collector road already built in Wesley Chapel. It would need new bridges over Cypress Creek and a new southbound I-275 bridge. FDOT says construction is not yet funded.
