Pasco County does not pick up your trash. Wesley Chapel is unincorporated, and in unincorporated Pasco every home signs up with a licensed private hauler for curbside garbage and recycling. The hauler sets your pickup days, bills you and handles missed pickups. The county runs the places the trash goes: the landfills, the waste-to-energy plant, the East Pasco Transfer Station and the recycling centers. County Solid Waste answers questions at 727-847-2411.

What day is my pickup?
Your hauler decides. Under the county’s rules, curbside garbage is picked up twice a week and recycling once a week. If you pay for twice-a-week garbage pickup, the county says, you already have recycling service. Ask your hauler for a recycling cart, or call 727-857-2780 for a decal to put on your own lidded bin.
Some haulers offer residential dumpster service instead of curbside carts. The county sets the maximum charges by dumpster size and frequency; recycling is extra.
Holidays
Pasco County does not publish a holiday trash schedule because it does not collect trash. Each hauler sets its own. Check your hauler’s website or call before Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s Day.
What goes in the recycling
Pasco County accepts curbside:
- Aluminum cans and metal food cans
- Cardboard and paper
- Plastic bottles and containers numbered 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 7
Keep these out: glass, juice and milk cartons, plastic bags, foam, hoses and cords (“tanglers”), anything wet or dirty, and very big or very small items. “When in doubt, throw it out,” the county says. Recycling is not mandatory in Pasco.
Bulk items, yard waste and self-haul
You can take trash yourself to two county sites, open 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday. Proof of Pasco residency is required, and waste from outside the county is not accepted.
| Site | Address | Phone |
|---|---|---|
| East Pasco Transfer Station (nearest to Wesley Chapel; residential only) | 9626 Handcart Road, Dade City | 352-521-0500 |
| West Pasco Resource Recovery | 14606 Hays Road, Spring Hill | 727-861-3053 |
- Up to eight bags of household garbage a day are free, even if you have no hauler.
- Furniture, yard waste and mixed loads are charged by weight at the county’s posted rates.
- Refrigerators and air conditioners carry a small fee; residential metal is free unless mixed.
- Construction debris and treated wood go to the West Pasco site only.
Your hauler may also pick up bulk items; ask what it charges.
Free tire drop-off through Nov. 1. From Oct. 1 through Nov. 1, county residents may bring up to four old tires, no larger than 36 inches across, free to the two sites above or to the Land O’ Lakes recycling drop-off at 6801 Wisteria Loop. Pasco waived the fee because of its dengue fever emergency: tires left outdoors hold water and breed mosquitoes.
Recycling drop-off sites
| Site | Hours | Address |
|---|---|---|
| East Pasco Recycling Center | 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday to Saturday | 9626 Handcart Road, Dade City |
| West Pasco Recycling Center | 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday to Saturday | 14606 Hays Road, Spring Hill |

Apartment and condo residents with a dumpster can still recycle at these sites.
Hazardous waste and batteries
Paint, pool chemicals, motor oil, fluorescent bulbs, household batteries and electronics go to the household hazardous waste centers at the East Pasco and West Pasco sites, same hours. Most items are free within daily limits; computers, TVs and 20-pound propane tanks carry a small fee. Medicines, needles, ammunition and fireworks are not accepted.
In Wesley Chapel, the New River Library, 34043 State Road 54, has a collection bucket for household batteries, including rechargeable ones.
How trash is paid for
Two separate charges:
- Your hauler’s bill pays for collection.
- The county’s solid waste disposal assessment is on every improved parcel’s property tax bill and pays for the landfills, waste-to-energy plant, transfer station, hazardous waste and recycling programs. For fiscal 2026, the county raised the residential assessment to $114 a year. See our Pasco County property taxes guide.
